Thanks for coming into Richard Lidzbarski's personal wunderkammen. I'm a computer science major familiar with C, C++, Java, Bash scripting, HTML/XHTML, and soon Perl and Python as well. I use Gentoo Linux on my desktop, and dual boot Ubuntu Linux/MS Windows on my laptop to stay current with its many "features" (ahem). You can find out more about me here, see what I'm doing now on Twitter, or Friend Feed, read my blog, or talk to me over beer (or something) at the Friday Beer and Blog gathering. I live in the Mt Tabor neighborhood of SE Portland, Oregon, just 3 blocks from the entrance to Mt Tabor Park. Portland is often ranked among the most livable cities in the World. I agree and I'm glad to be living here since 2003.

I volunteer at Free Geek, a non-profit dedicated to refurbishing donated computers and giving them to people who need them. Motto: "Helping the Needy Get Nerdy." Please consider donating that old computer gathering dust in your closet. It may be obsolete for your needs, but someone else will be thrilled to have it. I've had many hobbies and interests. At different times I've been into: flying (Cessna 172-182, Piper Cherokee, Beechcraft Bonanza), sailing (can reef, tack, steer, and look good holding a sextant), horses (riding lessons for a year), SCUBA Diving (PADI Rescue Diver) mostly in and around Monterey Bay, target shooting (awesome with rifle, so-so with pistol), flyfishing, and motorcycles. I'm a devourer of books. I started as a kid picking up Treasure Island and my addiction continues. "Hi, I'm Richard and I'm a biblioaddict....Hi, Richard!" I sporadically keep a reading list and catalog the books on my shelves on LibraryThing. I've led what could be called an "interesting" life: ex-Army(97E, Interrogator), construction worker, licensed contractor. I decided to do the back to school/career change thing in Fall 2007 before the economy really tanked. I'm dual enrolled at both PSU and PCC.

My personality consistantly tests as INTP (introverted, intuitive, thinking, perceiving). Here is the Myers-Briggs, Jungian take on moi:
"INTP types are quiet, thoughtful, analytical individuals who don't mind spending long periods of time on their own, working through problems and forming solutions. They are very curious about systems and how things work, and are frequently found in careers such as science, architecture and law. INTPs tend to be less at ease in social situations and the "caring professions," although they enjoy the company of those who share their interests. They also tend to be impatient with the bureaucracy, rigid hierarchies, and politics prevalent in many professions, preferring to work informally with others as equals. INTPs organize their understanding of any topic by articulating principles, and they are especially drawn to theoretical constructs. Having articulated these principles for themselves, they can demonstrate remarkable skill in explaining complex ideas to others in simple terms, especially in writing. On the other hand, their ability to grasp complexity may also lead them to provide overly detailed explanations of "simple" ideas, and listeners may judge that the INTP makes things more difficult than they are. This to the INTP, however, is incomprehensible: They are merely presenting all of the information. INTPs' extraverted intuition often gives them a quick wit, especially with language, and they can defuse the tension in gatherings by comical observations and references. They can be charming, even in their quiet reserve, and are sometimes surprised by the high esteem in which their friends and colleagues hold them."

Friends say the above description is spot on. I guess I can live with that.
