It was a dark and stormy that night in the North Atlantic when Lieutenant Junior Grade Ryan O'Malley stood watch on the bridge of the USS Thomas Bulwer (DD), a Koontz class destroyer just a year out of shipyard. Seaman Peter Jones slid next to him and handed over a message with a curt "Message from CINCLANTFLT, Sir", saluted smartly and went back to his duties.

This is where I post intentionally awful writing. The only rules I set for myself are that it should start with "It was a dark and stormy night" or some variation of thereof, and that it contain every cliche and trite hackneyed phrase I can think of.
